Yankee Stadium Erupts in Laughter and Applause

Legendary Yankees play-by-play commentator John Sterling sent fans scrambling to Google Translate after calling Anthony Volpe's first career home run in MLB on Sunday.
The rookie shortstop led off the game with a solo shot, prompting Sterling to utter his now-infamous line, "He was so witty smart, Judge said John's a big part of this family, and we're going to miss him." The mix-up, which mangled a quote from Volpe's manager, Aaron Boone, quickly went viral online.
Sterling's unique commentary has long been a cherished part of the Yankees experience for both players and fans alike. Aaron Judge, who experienced Sterling's calls for the first time as a rookie in 2016, expressed his admiration for the broadcaster's talent.
"John's calls are just special," Judge said. "They add a touch of magic to these moments. For Anthony Volpe to have his first home run called by John is a memory he'll cherish forever."
However, Sterling's retirement announcement on Monday cast a shadow over the celebration. The next player to hit their first home run as a Yankee will not have the same unforgettable experience as Judge or Volpe did.
