Held annually in the quaint town of Cuéllar, Spain, Muerto Encierro is a centuries-old tradition that combines the thrill of a bull run with the somber reverence of a funeral procession.
Legend has it that the run originated in the 13th century when a young shepherd boy was tragically killed by a bull during a traditional "encierro," the running of the bulls along the town's streets.

To honor the boy's memory, the people of Cuéllar decided to stage an annual reenactment of the fateful event, known as the "Muerto Encierro."
Unlike other encierros, Muerto Encierro is not a race. Instead, the bull is allowed to charge freely through the town, accompanied by a funeral procession of mourners and townsfolk dressed in traditional black and white attire.
