Derek Clancey, a former ECHL star and Hall of Famer, has been appointed as the assistant general manager of player personnel for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Clancey brings a wealth of experience in player development and scouting to his new role, having spent eight seasons as a player and coach in the ECHL.
Clancey's playing career spanned 441 games, during which he accumulated 524 points (157 goals and 367 assists). He spent the majority of his career with the Chesapeake Bayhawks, where he became the team's all-time leader in points (313) and assists (218). In 2020, Clancey was inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame.
After retiring from playing, Clancey transitioned into coaching and served as an assistant and head coach of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. He also worked as a scout for the Vancouver Canucks before being named assistant general manager. Clancey's expertise in player evaluation and development will be a valuable asset to the Maple Leafs organization as they look to improve their team performance.
