The Sorceress of Castle Grayskull
First Appearance
The sorceress first appeared in the He-Man miniature comic included with the Power Sword toy in 1982. The cover art on the mini-comic features a green-skinned sorceress but although the actual story inside the comic is in black and white, it is likely that she would have had the same green skin.
In this first appearance, the sorceress is magically summoned by her familiar, the green cat Cringer, to the aid of the barbarian He-Man after he has lost the Sword of Power to the evil sorcerer Skeletor. The sorceress then transports He-Man and Cringer into Castle Grayskull, where she teaches He-Man how to reclaim the Power Sword.
This version of the Sorceress is very different from the one that would later appear in the Filmation animated series. She is more powerful and mysterious, and she does not have the same kind of close relationship with He-Man.
